Bus fare information is not so easy to find, and I have seen the comment that bus travel must be one of the few things, if not the only one, that folk have to use without knowing the cost before they do so. That has not stopped anyone going on the web and seeking this information though and some have arrived here looking for just that.
Since it is a need that is not about to go away, I am collating some fares that I have seen or paid for journeys that I have undertaken. Unless otherwise specified, the quoted fares are for an adult passenger and are correct as of the last time of my using a service. The date is in brackets beside the fare, so you know when that was. Even if bus fares change annually, I hope that what is here will help you to manage your budget as needed.

Lothian Buses
Lothian now operates a flat fare single fare across all of Edinburgh regardless of where you get on and how far you are going. Craftily, the price of the day ticket is more than double the price of two single fares, a reminder of when I lived in the city and found the same situation for the journeys that I was undertaking at the time.

This is a multi-operator day ticket that is valid across Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd and Wrexham in Wales with the only exceptions being tourist services and Townlynx service between Mold and Flint. Snowdon Sherpa bus services are covered by the ticket too. Connections with Chester, Ellesmere Port and Whitchurch get included too.

The cost of train travel has become controversial in recent times due to increases beyond the rate of inflation. Given that, I reckon that it might be of interest to log selected train fares here, adding to them as I do along.
There was a time when I travelled by train more than I do today, so the entries may accumulate at a slower rate than once was the case. Nevertheless, my hope remains that whatever finds its way here is of interest and is helpful for travel budgeting.

There was a time during my lifetime when virtually all public transport services in Éire were operated by the CIE group of companies, but that has changed. Some private operators are winning public service contracts, while others successfully operate competing services that have cut down the size of the Bus Éireann Expressway network. All in all, Ireland is changing and that applies to what you find here.

There is good news in that bus fares cap is staying in England for 2025. However, the only catch is that the single fare increases to £3 to £2. The 50% increase, large though that sounds, only appears significant in relation to a low income and many journeys. Maybe that combination is infrequent, which could explain some of the logic underlying the increase for the sake of claimed sustainability. Nevertheless, that has done little to assuage the concerns of some, like those in the Campaign for Better Transport.

Handily, the app displays real time information, and gives a heads-up if there is any bother on the network. Some of the information comes from users reporting problems that they have spotted. Users can plan journeys across different parts of a country, with the app spelling out exactly what needs doing at each step.
